Salford Loaves and Fishes

Following twenty five years’ experience of service to the homeless and vulnerable people of Salford and Manchester in the basement of Cathedral House at St John’s Cathedral on Chapel Street, Salford, the Drop-In Centre had to find a new home.  The search eventually, through an enquiry made to Salford Diocese by a new worker at Manchester City Mission, brought the team into contact with the Mission, and evangelical church, which, amazingly, was looking for someone with experience to run a project for homeless people in their building! MCM had a building looking for a project and Salford Loaves and Fishes, as we became, had a project looking for a home!  We got together; Salford Loaves and Fishes and Manchester City Mission formed a collaborative partnership and, following much discussion and prayer, drew up a Collaborative Agreement which forms the bedrock for this ecumenical venture and our management of the work at the Windsor Drop-In Centre.  The Centre opened in January 2007 and the rest, as they say, is history!

Both parties are responsible for the day to day running of the Drop-In.  Salford Loaves and Fishes provides the project, the finance, the services and most of the employees in the Drop-In Centre.  The Centre provides a cafe, showers, laundry facilities, clothing, a doctor’s practice and dental service.
